day sailing from Mangonui

We'd like to do a day sailing trip in the bay of islands. The only ones I have found are from Paihia or Russell. We will be staying in Mangonui so would prefer to leave from there. Anyone know of a company doing that from Mangonui?

Can't answer your question as we took our own yacht, but is amazing sailing in that area. If you have time and can find a trip, I recommend an overnight trip.

Thanks WW but way expensive. $800 one full day and the other was 170 full day tea and coffee provided! I know it's not Thailand but if you leave from Russell or Paihia it is about $90. I'll keep looking. cheers

Is there anything suitable in Whangaroa harbour? Yet it's likely that charters operating from Opua would be more competitive.

Couldn't find Opua on the map. Where is it near? I found Whangaroa and it doesn't look too far on the map as long as it isn't a windy hilly road. How long would it take to drive there from Mangonui?

Opua is just south of Paihia. I think lagoon is referring to those sailing trips that you mentioned that leave from Bay of Islands.

Whangaroa harbour is 30 minutes drive south of Mangonui, so not as far away as the Bay of Islands is from Mangonui.

The main road is good, there are a few windy areas but nothing out of the ordinary for Northland & Far North anyway. The coastal road into to Whangaroa itself does get a little windy as its a side road off SH10, but it's only for a short distance into Whangaroa.

How much time do you have to organise? BX you could try posting on the forum at crew.org.nz and see if there are any local sailors in that area who might be up for some volunteer crew, especially if they brought their own beer and wine with them ;-)
and the members might also know if there are any small charter companies who operate closer to where you will be based.

There's the Maungonui Cruising Club. Might be worth getting in touch with them.

Come to NZ via Ireland where you should kiss the blarney stone and then blag your way onto a random stranger's yacht in Mangonui???

If none of the above know of any, then there are probably no trips/tours that run from there and you should probably take the $170 one or one from Paihia or Russell.

Yeah maybe one night in Paihia or Russel do the sail and spend the next 4 nights in Mangonui. How long does it take to drive from Paihia to Mangonui. Any accom. suggestions? Nice beach nearby to swim in? We'll have a car.

Sorry I hate it when people ask that question and give no idea of what they want. We want a double with fridge, kettle and ensuite. Willing to pay up to about a hundred or a little bit more if we have to. Close to the beach would be good but not a must as we are only there one night.
