Visiting Barcelona and around for 16 days
Hello fellow travelers and locals,I am traveling to Barcelona (super excited) from the 13th through the 29th August and am looking to explore the city and also the neighboring outdoors in Catalunya, Majorca etc. Here's my itinerary and wanted to hear if you had any suggestions. This is kind of last minute and will appreciate your thoughts for sure.
first 6 days in Barcelona (planning to stay in Barceloneta; time in BCN includes trip to Monteserrat)
Drive to Girona, Costa Brava; 4-5 days (includes a cycling tour of the region)
Ferry to Majorca; 2-3 days
Seville; 1 day (definitely debating, might go to Valencia and stay on the coast)
Madrid; 2 days (definitely debating, might go to Valencia and stay on the coast)
Barcelona and back to San Francisco
My buddy and are in our early 30s and are interested in exploring this amazing country. We been hearing that Barcelona is very quiet (pardon the expression "dead") in August; is that truly the case? Are we missing out on Ibiza? we have had our fair share of endless partying ;) but not averse to reliving very briefly if it's something uniquely "good"
Cheers and thanks in advance

Barcelona is not dead at all in August. yes, many locals are on holiday but the city is packed with tourists. And even so, most of those Spanish on holiday are in the city - more so thanks to that damn crisis.Everything in the city centre is open. It are the small shops outside of the centre that are closed. You will barely notice.

^^ when I was there in Mid August a few years back, lots of shops just blocks away from the city centre was closed (shuttered closed, one would have thought the shops went bankrunpt!) then I returned about 8 Sept and it was very apparent that shop owners had just returned from holidays and the shops started to open again. So, all I'm saying is that the OP definitely see closed shops and choices for eating out places will be a little more limited than usual.

El clásico! Barcelona v Real Madrid. Camp Nou 23rd August @ 22.30 (date yet to be confirmed, may still be switched to the 22nd). Chance in a lifetime if you really like football...
