philippines snorkeling

Hello, In august I will be in phillipines for two weeks and I have a fly to/from Cebu.
I like snorkeling just offshore the beach and I don't like sharks......Can you suggest me some good spot?
Cabilao or Balicasag?
Malapascua?
Moalboal?
Siquijor?

Another inofrmation: do you know if in Manila airport (I have the stop here, are there money changer opens 24 hours?

Thank you!

Alessandra

There are 3 international terminals in Manila. For the best advice, you need to say which terminal you will land at.

From Mactan Cebu, you can avoid flying anywhere else if you go to any of your 4 suggested destinations

Malapascua has no flights, you have to travel to Maya at the northern tip of Cebu then catch a bangka boat (outrigger boat)

For Balicasag, you can catch a fast ferry from Cebu City to Tagbilaran Bohol then get a van out to Alona beach, then arrange a boat to take you to Balicasag

For Siquijor, you can catch a fast ferry from Cebu City to Dumaguete City then catch the next boat going to Siquijor

The easist place to get to will be Moalboal. Just catch a taxi or if you are on a budget, catch a bus.

Moalboal has some good offshore coral. House reef in front of the Blue Abyss Dive Shop was good. http://www.blueabyssdiving.com/

There was a current along the reef when I was there in the afternoon. It may be possible to take some money with you, snorkel, go ashore and catch a ride back to the starting point. See much more that way. Ask at dive shop.

Synthetic long underwear helps keep the sunburn away. If you are light skinned you start to fry in 30 minutes at noon time.

Second vote for Moalboal, good snorkelling and very easy to access from Cebu City via 3 hour bus ride from Ceu South bus terminal..

In August it will depend a lot on the weather, but you could take a ferry from Cebu City to Bohol and go to Alona Beach for Balicasag, or take a bus from Moalboal down to Dumaguete for Apo Island and Siquijor...
