Cancun airport to Puerto Juarez/Isla Mujeres
Hello! I realize there are other threads addressing this, but I'm really hoping for some current advice... I'm flying in to Cancun and staying on Isla Mujeres. Our flight arrives around 3:11pm on a Wednesday. We are open to both bus and taxi options to Puerto Juarez; we are traveling on a budget but would pay a few dollars more for a taxi if the time savings is significant. What's the best way to get from the Cancun airport to Puerto Juarez? Thanks!!!

Is there any particular reason you want to go to Puerto Juarez? Only the slow car ferry goes from there. The fast ferries usually used by tourists go from locations in the hotel zone. See http://www.granpuerto.com.mx/ for details.2
That was the port most referenced when looking up the ferries. I'm not staying in Cancun at all, would you still recomend going into the hotel zone? Seems like extra travel, but not having been there, I dont really know. Thanks~3
From the airport the ferries in the hotel zone are closer than Puerto Juarez, they take about 10 minutes rather than over an hour and they are more frequent. They also have a/c :)4
Ok, thanks! If I could ask another question...do you recommend the bus or a taxi to get to the hotel zone? And then to clarify, the ferry from the hotel zone will take me to Isla Mujeres? This is the quickest way? Thanks again!

"If I could ask another question...do you recommend the bus or a taxi to get to the hotel zone?"If you're traveling light you can take an ADO bus to the downtown Cancun bus station (MXN$40-50 pesos pp) at Uxmal & Tulum and than transfer to a city bus (R-1 or R-01 for MXN$8 pesos pp) going south along Av Tulum to the hotel zone. Take a bus (can't remember the route number) with "Puerto Juarez" marked among the list of places it goes by on or above the windshield/windscreen going NORTH on Av Tulum (opposite side of the road from the bus station) if going to Puerto Juarez. If you require a taxi to the hotel zone from the downtown ADO bus station (should cost around MXN$250 pesos, still cheaper than a taxi from the airport) you are better off getting a shared ride (colectivo) van from the airport to the hotel zone in the first place. Other wise a taxi from ADO bus station to Puerto Juarez should cost around MXN$50-80 pesos. A taxi from the airport to the hotel zone or downtown Cancun is about USD$40-60 for 1-4 people (more if going to Pto Juarez from the airport).
The rest of my reply is on FAQ #21 above this branch, which include links to the providers' websites for price quotes & online reservations.

I'd like to correct some misinformation you've been given about the various ferries leaving for Isla. The older passenger ferry terminal is at Puerto Juarez, the newer is nearby at Gran Puerto. No car ferry at Puerto Juarez; that is located at Punta Sam, a short distance beyond Puerto Juarez.
Ferries leaving from Gran Puerto take about 15 minutes to Isla, cost about 60-70 pesos. Ferries leaving from the Hotel Zone take about the same amount of time, but cost considerably more.
Geting to Puerto Juarez/Gran Puerto from the airport, the least expensive would be to catch the ADO bus in front of the airport, going to the station in downtown(CENTRO) Cancun. From there, you could get a cheap taxi to Puerto Juarez/Gran Puerto, the latter being the better ride, in my opinion.
There is no need to go to the Hotel Zone for a ferry. Have a great time.
