2 Day road trip L.A. to San Francisco
Hey guys,I'll be joining my friend in a road trip for two weeks across California's many National Parks. But the part where I need advice is the last two days, whose organization is up to me.
We'll have to bring the rented car back to Sacramento all the way back from Los Angeles. The plan is to follow the coastline until San Francisco. So I was wondering if there was anything that you would suggest us visiting along the way?
Perhaps some particular beaches or National Parks?
Also, I just stumbled across those Channel Islands. Would it be worth it to make a detour along the way? Is it complicated, expensive or would it take most of our day? (Which could prove problematic because of all the road we have to take)
Thanks in advance.

All of the above. You need a minimum of a half day, although a full day is better. Are you taking 2 days from LA to SF, and they staying in SF for a few days? Or is it really 2 days to get from LA to Sac? That makes a big difference in what you might have time to see and do. If it is two days to get to Sac, then I'd avoid SF as it will significantly lengthen the trip, due to traffic. I'd do this to save time--but the last 3 or so hours will be rather boring.
The most commonly recommended stops (by me, at least) are Hearst Castle, the elephant seals just north of Hearst Castle, the aquarium in Monterey, and perhaps the Santa Cruz boardwalk. There are also lots of scenic places ot pull over and beaches you can hike down to. But they are not swimming & sunbathing beaches.
There are also a ton of wineries on the way, if that interests you.

It would take most of your day. The ferry rides themselves take time, and usually require a morning departure and an afternoon return.Have you considered Pinnacles?
