We'd like to take a train to Nepal as well, if that would be at all possible.
Also, is there a better way to enter Nepal? Certain Checkpoints that will allow us to buy our Visa no problem??

1Assuming that you are landing in Delhi, there are no direct trains to Dharmshala. You'll have to take a bus from Delhi. It's an 11 hours journey.
Can't say about train to Nepal. I guess Gorakhpur is one of the stations on Nepal border which has a train service. But not sure if there is any train from Himachal Pradesh.

Visas are available at the land borders easily enough (assuming you are not from one of the countries who must get a visa in advance. A list of those countries and crossing points on the Dept of Immigration website.
Mahendranagar is the furthest west (I think) but the bus journey to KTM (presumably) would be long and slow - no trains to help you in Nepal.
