CYCLE UK TO AUSTRALIA JAN 2013 PARTNER REQUIRED
Setting of from Lincolnshire in January or February next year 2013 weather permiting. The loose plan is to head through europe to Turkey. From there either head through the stans to China or the alternative is Iran Pakistan to India. I am going no matter what but if anyone with the same ideas would like to join up it would benefit all concerned. The plan is to camp when suitable with a hotel every once in a while to recharge the batteries and to use www.warmshower.org when available. Anyone interested get in touch1
Don't think I'll be up for cycling to Australia next year, I am living in Lincolnshire though, so if you want to meet up for a ride sometime(perhaps not quite as far as Australia) give me a message, I'm usually living in Alford.2
Too bad you're not leaving one year later. That's exactly the trip I plan to do (but starting in Australia which is where I live). My family live in Lincolnshire (in and around Bourne). If u get postponed I'm very keen to find another (or a few) like minded people to cycle with. Good luck and travel safe!Row

Hey Nick (I assume that's ur name?)My route was going to be a bit of an undertaking with lots of it in mountainous areas as my partner at the time were feeling ambitious ha ha. Now I am solo but hoping this won't stop me from living the life I want. I was actually going to be starting in Hong Kong or Guangzhou (as I've travelled thru Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos previously) and heading through southern China into Tibet, Nepal, then either head into India and onto Pakistan to do the KKH, or continue thru China up to Kashgar, then thru Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan to cycle the Pamir Highway (my number 1 priority arguably), Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia to visit family then onto the UK whichever way.
Have done a bunch of research on bikes and I'm keen on getting a 29er MTB (although I might regret this down the track lol). I'm keen on the On One Inbred which is a steel frame 29er and Rohloff compatible.
The Surley LHT is very popular but I wanted more of an all rounder hence the MTB.
Tell me about ur proposed route and ur ideas :)

Don't mean to be a glass half empty but I do not think you will get far in January and February..winters in Poland..Austria..and further east are pretty bad..Even worse in Turkey ..wait till March or April..also from Lincolnshire.7
rowee, very rough and quick plan 2013,
fly to bali, follow the land around though java, malaysia, thai, up accross to hanoi or up through laos into china.
most of these countries are 30 - 60days visas, some exceptions but easiy obtained until china and west.
worked out if you average about 75km per day works hand in hand with visa lengths and rest days.
Southern china above tibet into stans through eatern europe/
Tibet not bothering, hard to get visa unless in group or organised tour.
as i said very rough plan.
i think the seasonal changes along the way heading north west wont be far off to avoid the depths of winter.
might cop a bit of rain in se.asia but humid climate am used to that here, better then minus and snow cycling.
bike, more a touring bike surly, schwinn, vivente, with 700 x 32 ish wheels.
not sure about 29er wheels, but am a traditionalist. as long as its comfy.
enjoy.
