Best guest houses for solo travelers in Burma

Hi guys,

I'm going to Burma in october this year.
I'm traveling solo, so I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for the best guest houses to meet people?
10-12 Usd would be great. I could maybe go a bit higher and could certainly go cheaper!

Cheers

If meeting people is your criteria I guess Moterland II in Yangon. Front patio w/ beer. $15.00 ?
Okinawa $6.00 dorm
White house: $ ?
Bagan: Eden $9.00
Mandalay: Royal GH single room $8.00

most every GH has B-fast included so no matter where you can always chat over b-fast.
prices may not be correct anymore...

Motherland II had something like a dorm when we were there in 2007, but I don't know the prices. Here is the journal entry:

We're staying in the Mother Land Inn - $15/night. Aircon works pretty good. Quiet. Breakfast included in room price - eggs, toast, cake, fruit, coffee - I put a spoonful of salt in mine. Bad coffee but good laugh for waiter. He brought me another to try again. I got it right the second time. Who ever heard of a bowl of salt? Photo: our room at the Mother land (2)

Today - Monday - we caught the train that goes around Rangoon. Very slow, 50 or so stops, wooden benches along the side, people packed in, bags of who knows what in the floor, holes in the floor (see the tracks rushing by) smell of cheroots and paan, oh SO FINE. Photo: train around Rangoon

So we're sitting on the bench, watching the countryside slip slowly by and watching the other people in our car. There is a young couple, the man sick, his wife loving and patting on him, wiping the sweat from his face. She never took her hands off him. Woman with baby, breastfeeding, loving him, and then falling asleep. Many of the women have flowers in their long black hair twisted up behind their head. I can smell sweat and it is truly sweet summer sweat - a good smell. There is a man with a bunny in a box.

Here comes a woman with a tray balanced on her head, selling fruit with chili oil on it. Here comes a young man selling paan and cigarettes (one stick at a time). There is a little boy selling water. He has a bucket with a top like a plate and 6 or so cups upside down in the 1/2 inch of water on the top and he dips a cup into the bucket and when the buyer is finished, sets the cup back on the top in the water.

In Yangoon ! last time I stayed in the ocean pearl Inn , it was not that great experience that I can write about !, certainly not for meeting pple , i think you stick to motherland II as suggested... prices are almost similar everywhere in Yangoon.. around 15 USD.

There are plenty of people in Myanmar no need to find a specific GH....

I'd definitely recommend the Royal Guesthouse in Mandalay for meeting other travellers. Ocean Pearl, like nyk said, isn't that great for meeting people but the second time we were in Yangon, we stayed at Beautyland II and we met loads of people there.
