where to?

Hello
This is the first time I have posted on this site. I am usually on the Thailand site as I usually go there every year. That being said this year I cannot afford to go so far so I thought I would like to visit my neightbour, the United States. Can anyone suggest a nice place on the mainland where the weather is warm not hot during the End of December to the begining of January. My sister and I are on a limited budget but would like to go somewhere where its warm but also would like to be kept busy seeing local sites. Thank you for your suggestions. ehhhhh !!!

On my previous post I indicated that I would like to be somewhere warm in the US not hot, however, I just reread my sister's email and it looks like HOT Weather is on the agenda. Any suggestions?

The only part of the U. S. mainland that is reliably warm/hot at that time of year is the Florida Keys. Someone will argue that San Diego is also. To quote Dogbert: "You say weiner, I say winner."

If you don't have the budget for Thialand, the Keys are "iffy" as well.

What sort of activities do you seek?

Southern Arizona is splendid that time of year. Tucson's average daily temperature range is 40 to 65.

There are places where it will get hot during the day (those same places may experience near freezing temps overnight however).

Perhaps if you gave us some budget numbers and a few more specific criteria you're looking for in making your choice it would help.

I don't think you are going to find HOT in the continental 48 or in Hawaii.

Yuma, AZ December temps avg high 67 avg low 48. Not HOT by my definition.

I think you need to get much farther south- possibly Panama. December Avg high 86, avg low 74

You can go to Guatemala for mayan culture & ruins, Honduras for diving, Nicaragua for volcanoes/beaches, or Costa Rica for adventure, nature and beaches/surf, as well as Panama, for far less daily expenses than going to the US Florida/Arizona.

There is no where truly hot/warm in US mainland in Dec.

It is also far more exotic and beautiful in Central America, than anywhere in the USA in Dec.

Thailand style beaches are on the caribe side of CA, Punta Uva Costa Rica and Bocas del Toro Panama are both great. I live in Chicago and go to CA 3-4 times a year, sometimes for long weekends...

BTW- What about Cuba?

I agree, Guatemala and Belize are good options. Probably cheaper than taking a trip to the US, especially Guatemala.

If you do the US, my first thought was Tucson, but it's not "hot."

For the record;
The average high temperature in Key West on New Year's Eve is 76 °F. The record, set in 1981, is 83 °F.
The average low on the same date is 67 °F. The record, set in 1997, is 51 °F.
If you celebrate New Year's Eve in Key West, you'll be so full of margaritas that you won't notice the temperature.
That is about as good as it gets in the continental U. S.

Solohobo, that's why I stay in the Middle Keys and party in Key West. The Phil Peterson Poker Run for bikes (there is also one for powerboats) is in mid-September this year. It won't interfere with anyone's plans in late December.

",,,fat ass bald middle aged motorcycle guys with pot bellys all dressed the same..."

Have you actually ever been to a biker rally?

Puerto Rico? Aruba? Cancun? San Padre Island Texas? Brownsville? Hawaii? Mexico?

Lots of options.

San Diego will not be HOT.

Debatable if Miami or Key West will be HOT.
