China Visa (duration of stay)

Hi,

I'm applying for a tourist visa in China (from the UK), and as I don't have a detailed plan for my stay, I'll be booking hotels which I don't plan on going to in order to satisfy that section of the visa forms. I will be in China for about 20 days.

My question though is this: is it worth putting down a shorter duration of stay (let's say 7 days) so that I can book less hotels (and thus make the process of booking hotels easier)? The default visa I believe is 30 days so should it matter that I put down a a shorter duration of stay on my visa forms?

Thanks!

The short answer is: No, it does not matter

There have been times when some consulates have been fussy and given the number of days applicants said they planned to spend in China. This usually happens when they're being fussy generally. Getting an extension of your visa in China is expensive and a considerable burden. Why possibly take a chance you'll be given just 7 days because you want to avoid making a couple more weeks of hotel reservations.

I agree with 889. Don't take the chance. For your 20 days, just make 4 refundable bookings: 5 days in Beijing, 5 in Shanghai, 5 in Guilin/Yangshuo, 5 in Guangzhou. Get visa (hopefully for 30 full days) then cancel/change bookings.
