Contact lens prices in India?

I live in Japan and the prices for daily contact lenses here are very expensive.

I was told the prices are far cheaper in India and that I should pick up a long-term supply on my summer trip there.

Does anyone know the prices (or know of a link to prices) of Acuvue or Focus Dailies in India?

I'll also be visiting Thailand during the summer, so if anyone knows if they're cheaper there please let me know!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I buy Bausch & Lomb Soflens and pay, I think, around Rs2500 for 6 pair. Or maybe it's Rs2000. I have to get some pretty soon and maybe I'll remember to give the exact price here. In Ahmedabad, btw.

Thanks, Pirate. But that actually sounds very expensive.

Those lenses only cost about Rs1500 (equivalent) for 6 pairs in London.

Based on what? The price? Guess you're not an Econ major. Or Business Mgmt.

Yes, expensive based on the price.
I'd have expected (and have been told) they're much cheaper in India than in Japan and the UK.
Your quote tells me they're 30%-60% more expensive in India.
Don't need to be an Econ major to know that Rs2500 is more than Rs1500!

Contact lenses are not exactly made by hands using cheap labor you know. I would not expect India to have cheap contact lenses.

Gee, ya think? Might be imported. Might have a small portion of the population that even know what eyes are.

Still cheaper than Switzerland, which is why I get them in the first place. but I still think that anyone that shoves plastic in their eyes is a little off to start with.

I had some prescrpt lenses done for my cheapish Indian frames, rs18,000 which I suppose isn't bad as compared to UK prices, maybe I could have got ground and polished beer glass bottoms cheaper.

When I had prescription lenses made for my glasses they were about a third of the cost as from a UK optician. And they had them prepared and fitted to my frames same day.

I walked into one of the opticians on Pahar Ganj Main Bazaar, maybe 50m or 100m up from the Anoop guest House walking in the opposite direction from New Delhi station.

This of course was glasses, not contacts. But variations on a theme, right?

My prescription costs Rs650 for lenses in my own frames.

And no, it's not the same. And another wild guess is that you'd get what you pay for (if you're lucky) in Pahar Ganj.

Yes, there's definitely a big difference between wearing something in front of your eyes and actually putting something in your eyes. Don't want to take any risks with the latter.
