1 week Maritime Road Trip
Hello, I am planning a one week maritime road trip from Boston in late August in an RV.I wanted to solicit some ideas feedback about how best to spend the time and what distances are doable within the time frame.
The plan right now is to drive from Boston up the coastline, stopping for a night in Acadia (have been there many times) and up to Campobello Island.
We will then cross over into New Brunswick and hit St. Andrews for a whale watch, St. John, Fundy National Park, Hopewell Rocks and up to Moncton.
I am toying with the idea of driving over to PEI or hitting Kouchibouguac or driving to the Sunrise trail in Nova Scotia.
I eliminated Cape Breton Island and the Cabot trail because of time/distance concerns. I'm concerned that NB will be too touristy and dissapointing - any thoughts?
Here are my questions:
1. We are adventure travelers (experienced hikers/paddlers) who want some outdoor solitude and physical challenge - aside from some kayak outfitters I've found - can you recomend any other activities in this area? Caving? Challening hikes?
2. Can you drive/see/enjoy PEI in one day - it seems super touristy to me and I'm sort of ambivalent about it right now.
3. Is it worth hitting Nova Scotia even though we can't see the best parts? (Cape Breton/Halifax/Peggy's Cove ect...)
4. Kouchibouguac - fun? secluded? Worth spending a day or two?

I loved PEI. It's only really touristy round Cavendish. Away from there (even 5-10km away) you can find tiny relaxed fishing villages and beautiful beaches. But - 1 day is not a lot of time to see much other than round Cavendish/PEI National Park.Nova Scotia has many attractions . I think for a week you are right - Cape Breton is too far, but maybe you can get to Halifax/Peggy's Cove/Lunenburg area if you skip PEI. The area along the Bay of Fundy is also nice - e.g. Five Islands, Cape d'Or.
Have not spent any time in NB, so can't comment on that.

I was born in New Brunswick 75 years ago---I don't think "touristy" has ever been a problem!Use ferries to get from Campobello to mainland New Brunswick but check ahead of time to make sure they'll take your RV. Also think about Grand Manaan Island. Since you only have one week that might be a s far as you want to venture. You can get back to Boston in one day from that part of NB.
