3 weeks - santiago, BA, Iguazu, Pantanal
Hi,I'm heading to South America 21 July - 11 August. As it's so huge I have accepted that I should get an airpass rather than bus everywhere to get the most out of my time. I really want to go to Iguazu Falls, but other than that I am open to recommendation/suggestion.
I have a friend in BA until 24 July, so thought that could start my trip. Then to Iguazu, Pantanal, back to Santiago - maybe go have some wine.
If I was bussing I'd just turn up and wander for the three weeks, but if I get the airpass I need to book in advance, so any advice on times, how long I should be in Pantanal, and if this even makes sense as an itinerary would be great! Or should I just stay in Argentina/Brazil.
Thanks for any input! This is my first time to South America and I'm a little overwhelmed at the choice...

Unless you are coming to Santiago to ski or have to catch a return flight from here, I would maybe add a destination in Argentina or Brazil. If you are catching a return flight, then do a day sightseeing and a day skiing or tubing, or a day in Valparaíso (but not if it is pouring). I would definitely have a two/three day buffer in Chile before you fly home from here, if that's the case.2
Thanks for your suggestions. I fly in and out of Santiago. I think I will leave the day I arrive, maybe fly to Buenos Aires, and then plan around 5 days in Santiago before more flight out.Valparaiso sounds quaint, would you recommend spending a couple of nights here, or just a day trip?

It all depends on the weather. Storms in Valparaíso can be serious business with lots of flooding, but a couple of days would be great even if the sun isn't out.4
Great, thanks. My new itinerary is:21 July 8pm Arrive Buenos Aires (flight)
29 July BA - Iguazu (flight)
2 August - Iguazu - Salta (flight)
5 August - Salta - Mendoza (flight)
11 August - depart from Santiago
So I will bus to Santiago from Mendoza, as I have heard it is beautiful, and take a day to visit Valparaiso if I don't get stuck wandering around Santiago :)
Thanks for your help. Any tips on the places I'm going would be appreciated.
