One-way fees rental cars
Hi there,I am planning on driving from Sydney to Cairns and searching on the internet for the best deals. Still, what's not specifically mentioned are one-way fees. Sometimes there are not included and it seems that the last years one-way fees have been increased or even introduced on simple routes like the one I am planning.
Do you know where I can find an overview of one-way fees of companies like budget, avis, hertz, europcar and thrifty. I don't want to have an unpleasant surprise when picking up the car!
Thanks
Michael

Generally, the one-way fee that applies to rental cars is included in the total cost. The only 'surprises' you will have is if you take out the full insurance package, which isn't generally included in the quoted cost, but you can find out the daily rates that the companies charge by looking on their websites (or in the T&C of the rental). The best way to find out the difference is to do a comparison, one way Sydney-Cairns, for the length of time you require, and Sydney-Sydney with the same details. The difference will generally be your one-way fee.
From memory, rental car companies charge between $20-$100 for a one-way fee, depending on how long you have the car and where you are dropping it off.

the site I use to compare care hire companies. It only compares the major ones but it gives an all inclusive price - except for the additional insurance that's a voluntary thing. I usually finish up with Europcar - and I always take a one way hire - usually from Brisbane to Canberra or vice versa.7
Consider a car share take a look at the post which is currently at the top of the board posted today looking for people to car share from Sydney to Cairns. Cheaper and share the driving or just be the passenger. Most sites I have seen for one way Sydney to Cairns it is a $100 one way fee however the extra expense came when I looked at insurance as if you don't take a decent one out you can be liable for big costs if someone drives into you.
