How far is to walk between borders Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan?
Hello forum members,In October I will be in Turkmenistan and leaving to Uzbekistan by land after visiting Merv.
I have been advised that cars are not permitted to travel between the borders and that I must WALK across, with my luggage, from the Turkmen border to the Uzbek border.
Does anyone know how far this actually is? I've read estimates between 1 and 1.5 kms, which, if carrying a suitcase, is a long way. Also, is it an actual road that could handle a suitcase?
Another person has told me that now there is transport which you can use some of the way on Turkmenistan side of the neutral area and that it is around US$5. True?
Grateful for any input about this.

I'm not the best at judging distances, but the one at Turkmenabat is about 1 km from parking lot to parking lot. There are porters to assist with bags, if you need it. At a cost of course. It is a road, a roller suitcase will be fine.3
Do you mean the Turkmenabat border? It is roughly 1km yeah, maybe a tad more: from the uzbek side to the no man's land there was a minivan which costed 500 som (you can walk though), then you get to the first turkemen outpost where you are checked and registered. from there you have to wait another minivan (the soldier wouldn't allow me to walk) up to the proper "visa building"; this one costed me an "expensive" one dollar.5
yes, it's 1km or a little more.most people take a minivan to do that and it costs 1 manat.
I walked and noone said anything (except for good luck, welcome to my country...). it was a very smooth border crossing and as a foreigner, you'll jump all lines (not fair to local people I know but that's how it works).

which one, Koyne-Nukus border only 200 meters away from each other7
It's a safe assumption if they are going to "the border" after visiting Merv, that they're crossing at Turkmenabat.8
You can't walk the border area from Turkmenistan sidebut you can walk the border area of the Uzbekistan side
Both sides are around 1KM (that means total 2KM)
