Rough itinerary for JulyHi there. My friend and I are headed to Costa Rica next month and we wanted to get your opinion on our rough itinerary. We just want to make sure this is doable in the time frame that we're looking at. Anything helpful will be much appreciated!!
Day 1 (Saturday): Arrive in Liberia
--> Anything to see in Liberia? Otherwise, head to La Fortuna
Day 2 (Sunday) Arenal/La Fortuna
--> White water rafting
Day 3 (Monday) Arenal/La Fortuna
--> Arenal Volcano Hike
--> Finish day at natural hot spring
Day 4/5 (Tues/wed)
--> Go to Monteverde , Ziplining
--> leave for Guanacaste or Puntaneras
--> enjoy beach and activities there. Not sure which beach to stay at.
Day 9 (sun)
--> Fly out of Liberia
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thank you in advance.

1Liberia is a pretty "vanilla" town. Not really much to see when compared to other areas. Rincon de la Vieja is worth a trip though, and is close by. If you're going to Monteverde just to "zipline", you can pretty much do that anywhere in the country. With a lot less bumpy road to endure. As for Puntarenas, there's so many nice places to go in Costa Rica, why go to the left armpit? You want nice beach...Malpais? Manuel Antonio? Maybe skip Monteverde and hit one of these two?

2i would skip monteverde. it's just not worth it for one night and it will be cool and rainy. as cowmoozik said, you can zipline in many places.
for your beach experience after arenal, you could consider the beaches of the southern nicoya peninsula or other areas closer to liberia such as samara or playa hermosa or the conchal/brasilito/flamingo/potrero area. it really depends on what you are looking for. eliminate puntarenas from your "beach" thinking. it's not that pleasant. http://www.nicoyapeninsula.com or http://www.samarabeach.com or http://footprintscostarica.com/footprints_hotels.php playa hermosa is a good choice for your last night because it is only about 30 minutes to the airport from there.
liberia is mostly a commercial center and not that interesting for many tourists. it is, however, a good example of a typical costa rican town for a "cultural" experience and does offer lots of shopping and banking options.
not sure how you are planning on getting around, but keep in mind that if you are driving, you shouldn't plan on driving from place to place after dark which is about 6 pm. it will take you at least 3 hours to get from the airport to the arenal area.
look here for distances and travel times: http://www.yourtravelmap.com
you might also consider this itinerary: rincon de la vieja 2 nights http://www.rincondelavieja.net
arenal 3 nights
beach 3 nights

3I agree with above, delete Monteverde, overrated anyway...
If you are younger (under 40) and looking for a good beach with nightlife options and a younger crowd, Tamarindo is a good bet. If not, Samara or Nosara, depending how you are getting around.
conchal/brasilito/flamingo/potrero are one horse towns and nothing special...
