northern india, train route question
HiI'm new to the site.
we're in mumbai, heading to aurangabad tomorrow.
after aurangabad, we'd like to visit udaipur, but we're having a hard time figuring a good route on trains.
is there a direct train?
if not, is there any way to avoid coming back to mumbai? can we connect through another city like ahmedabad?
after udaipur, our stops will be johdpur, jaipur, agra, and then we might go to delhi, or head straight to nepal (via gorakhpur?).
any info or advice would be great!
thanks
Jimena

Hola JimenaYep this is a difficult one - basically it is not easy to enter Udaipur from the south by train neither is it easy to get out of Aurangabad by train or even bus if you rae going North except to Jalgaon.
If you want to do it by train then you'd have to make your way to Ahmedabad posiibly by bus and there is an overnite train leaving there for Udaipur at 23.00 - taking 9 hours for 300 kms - better to take buses and stopover in Ahmedabad which aint a bd city to visit.

Jimena:You have a couple options actually if the days work for you: A weekly train Hyderabad Ajmer special passes through Aurangabad every Saturday and will get you to Chittaurgarh from where there're state transport buses as well as regular trains to Udaipur. Chittaur is well worth the time for the splendid fort.
Otherwise, you may connect in Ahmedabad. There's only one weekly train though (number 16733).
Use cleartrip for searches and bookings.

thanks to everyone!!great information!!
we ended up having to make a quick decision. it was looking like we could take 3 different trains, for 26 hours, with no AC.... or pay $450 for plane tickets.
so, we ended up deciding to skip aurangabad, even thought we already had train tickets.
we ended up taking a bus all the way to udaipur (16 hours). if anyone else takes the sleeper buses, try to make sure you get a bed near the front of the bus. since we were in the last bunk, every bump was amplified. we were literally tossed in the air, HARD, about every 10 minutes for 16 hours. no fun at all.
thanks for all the great tips!

Jimena - very sweet of you to let us know and for saying thank you.Enjoy the rest of your trip - I would suggest that after Udaipur you might like to visit the other charismatic city of Rajesthan ie Jaiselmer - I think you still have to take 2 buses changing in Jodhpur but its a good bus station in U. Then I'd skip either (or both) Jodhpur/Jaipur.
