Tips on visiting & staying in or near 2 Louisbourg, Cape Breton Island, NS?

Greetings:

This summer, until early August, my wife and I will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My wife wants to explore Cape Breton Island, NS and, in particular, the fortress of Louisbourg. If you have visited Louisbourg from Halifax in the past, please feel free to tell how you did it, where you stayed and where you ate on the way and so on. If you have visited Louisbourg, Cape Breton Island, I would like to read your suggestions on where to stay in Louisbourg or in any community nearby. A favourite B&B or motel would be very nice to know about. Basically, I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. If you had a nice road trip to Louisbourg from Halifax or another part of Nova Scotia, please tell us about it. If it worked for you, it might work for us also. Next, if your road trip to Louisbourg also included other parts of Cape Breton Island, please tell us about it. We might just do the same thing. Visiting and staying in Cape Breton Island for 2 or 3 days or longer wouldn’t be a problem. Finally, if anyone can suggest other sites where I can get info about visiting, touring and staying in Cape Breton Island, the information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my posting and we look forward to reading your replies.

Drive the Cabot trail and stop for 2-3 nights along the way.
The Fortress at Louisbourg is very cool, and you could easily spend a day there.
The Alexander Graham Bell museum in Baddeck is worth a stop if you're interested in science.

We did the trip around Cape Breton a few years back and and spent 3 or 4 nights along the way. We were camping though, so I have no hotels to recommend. Plan to spend a full day at Louisbourg if you want to see everything. The drive along Cabot trail is beautiful, take your time to explore the coast and see the many waterfalls along the way as well.

"A Paradise Found" B and B in Sydney, Nova Scotia was great a few years ago. Can easily base there and see Louisbourg on a day trip.
