What happens if I miss my connecting flight?

Ok, so I'm going to Palermo Italy in a couple of months to visit a friend. It turns out she'll be busy and I don't really have another reason to go there. My flight connects in Rome. What happens if I stay in Rome and just skip the connecting flight to Palermo? Is that legal? I would still go to Palermo eventually and leave from there.

I can't see why you could not, but make sure your luggage is not being sent on to Palermo

you need to explain your ticket situation better.
If you miss any leg of a multi-flight ticket, you risk that all consequent flights are cancelled. So if you have a ticket X-Rome-Palermo - Palermo-Rome-X then you maye not be able to return from Palermo anymore without buying a new ticket...

Call the airline and see if you can change the ticket.

MTL has the correct approach, the only problem I have ever had with calling an airline is that it is almost impossible to find a phone number. I am luck, I live only a fifteen minute drive from my local airport and I can just go see them. Their labor costs are less if they don't have to have someone answer the phone.

But you might try calling a travel agent, they may have some experience in this.
