how long do we need to change flights at Ataturk

We are visiting Turkey and Greece in September/October.
We fly into Ataturk airport first - due to arrive at 13.15 from Abu Dhabi.
We want to fly on to Athens the same day and the choices are flights at 16.00, 19.25 and 21.20 (the one in the middle being on Turkish Airlines and therefore the most expensive by far).
How long do we need to allow? We wouldn't be getting a Turkish visa at this stage (returning later but can get it then). Is 2 3/4 hours too tight?

We come in on Etihad (Australia to Istanbul return ticket) and would fly on with Olympic, Aegean or Turkish airlines. Would we be able to send our bags all the way to Athens or would we have to pick them up in Istanbul?

If you're on two separate tickets, you'll need to collect and re-check your bags.

hmmm thought that would be the case. But do you think 2 3/4 hours is safe?
Anyone know Turkish airlines reputation for being on time?
Although we have an Etihad ticket from Abu Dhabi, it's actually Turkish Airlines who are flying it.

it's always best to have a single ticket for both legs. If not, the risk of missing the flight becomes yours, not the airlines. SO in normal circumstances 2 1/2 hrs is fine BUT if yor flight is 2hrs late you will miss your connecting flight and will have to buy a new ticket. which will be expensive.

It's all a matter fo how much risk you're willing to take.

I have flown to and through Ataturk on multiple occasions and have found it to be easy and fast.

Based solely on my personal experience I'd say 2.5 hours is fine, but on any given flight on any given day, no one can say what might happen.

Good luck.
