After doing either one of the above, we will be spending a day at Daintree Rainforest and one day in Cape Tribulation region. Would Atherton Tablelands or Kuranda offer us the more different type of experience?
I've read people's comments on Kuranda being a tourist trap.
We are very interested in seeing wildlife, natural wonders, and having unique experiences. We aren't big hikers though - we are fairly fit and able to walk but prefer 1 hour or less trails. Which one would you recommend?

4Kuranda itself is a tourist trap, but the scenic rail up & skyrail back, are superb.
If there are 2 of you, and you both drive, why not drop off one person at Redlych for the train up, and pick them up at the Kuranda train station. They could then drive the car back down the range while you took the skyrail. Best of both worlds, plus you'll both be able to zip around the Atherton Tablelands to Millaa Millaa Falls, Lakes Barrine & Eacham, & Hypipmaee Crater, maybe even as far as Millstream Falls.

6Chillagoe Caves are also worth seeing
You could also take in the Undara Lava Tubes & the Palmerston Hwy to Innisfail, stopping at Crawfords Lookout & some of the roadside waterfalls.
