buying mosquito nets

Hello,

You're all been great help to our planning for the upcoming Belize trip.
Does anyone know if hotels in Belize provide mosquito nets on requests?
and do you know if these are easily purchased in Belmopan or San ignacio.
we don't mind buying our own over there, just in case.
thank you for your help.

.Adrian

Nearly all hotels in Belize -- even low budget ones -- in areas where there are mosquitoes have windows with screens so mosquito nets aren't needed. Some hotels provide mosquito coils. A few hotels have mosquito nets already installed on the beds -- mostly for show, I think.

Not all hotels will be able to provide mosquito nets upon request. They're just not necessary in most areas. They might be available at jungle lodges.

If you want one (maybe you have a baby and don't want to use coils or other chemicals), better bring your own. They're probably available in Belize, but I can't say for sure because I've never looked for one.

this your first trip? an oscillating fan will deter mosquitos. nets are from pre-electicity days.

If you are really concerned, most camping suppliers have small nets that would take up no room at all in your luggage. The are made to cover you from the head of the bed to about your waist where you should be covered by a sheet. it is just a piece of net, no supports of any kind. You would have to drape it over the head board, if you have one, or tie it up to something with string. I have bought this and actually used it once, but I tend to go where no man has gone before. If you are just traveling in Belize, you should be fine.
