Do I need to book MP day tickets in advance?
We have 6 week to travel from Lima to La Paz and on the way we plan to see MP on a day visit, staying in the town at the foot of MP. We will not trek the Inka-trail. As we travel from Lima I do not yet know the excat date we will be in Cuzco and therefore I hoped to buy day tickets when we get to Cuzco and then see other local sights if we have to wait a few days. The problem is if we have to wait like 2 week to buy MP day tickets when we gets there. Therefore I like info on MP day tickets and if it usually in July is possible to buy those when we get to Cuzco?

well about the entrances to MP is in this page http://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/now for train tickets is https://www.perurail.com/en/

I only went to Machu Picchu once, six years ago, but here is my recollection:You don't need to buy Machu Picchu entrance tickets in advance
You may need to buy the train tickets to Machu Picchu in advance if you want a seat on the train. I don't know what the current situation is on that or how crowded the trains are in July.
Sorry, my info may be outdated. I'm sure others here have been a lot more recently.

If you want to visit Huayna Picchu, mind that there are only 400 tickets available each day, and they might be sold out one week in advance. Montana MP (also 400 tickets) is less popular at the moment and you might get a ticket the same day.5
Since its apparently impossible for foreignors to purchase tickets from the official MP website, does anyone know of any trustworthy travel agents in Peru that can be contacted to purchase the tickets?6
It is possible that the whole Machu Picchu scheme is nothing but a scam. Can't sell you tickets for something that is not there.Thought that I was there 4 years ago...but they could have shown me any pile of rocks and called it Machu Picchu.

If you want to climb Huayna Picchu you'll definitely need to buy admission tickets in advance but if you just want to visit the ruins you'll be able to book tickets in Cusco.8
Yes I want to climb Huayna Picchu, but as others has written then I cannot pay from outside Peru as the offical site no longer accept Visa card from abroad. I will land in Lima on Friday and we will use 2-3 week on the Gringo trail and 1 week in Cuzco and a MP date around 19/7 gives me flexibility about how fast to get to Cuzco. As it is complicated to book myself outside Peru, then I either can go in person to a travel agent in Lima, when I get there, or alternative find a travel agent in Cuzco and book over the internet.

Have you thought about calling/writing the hotel you'll stay at in Cusco, they may buy the tickets for you.10
Just to close the loop, I did get a reply from reservas@incaperutravel.com, and they did assist me in purchasing a ticket (albeit, they did charge a service fee), using my VISA card.machupicchu-travel@hotmail.com also did reply to me, but they only accept WesternUnion for payment, which is just about as useless to me as not being able to pay with a credit card.
