Getting from Lecce to Tropea

Hi
I am planning a trip in the south of Italy in mid July. I will be heading to Ostuni, Lecce, Tropea, Scilla, then Sicily. I wanted to skip across from Lecce to Tropea, but it's actually a pretty massive jump. On Trenitalia my search came up with a 18hr trip! I ont really want to do a 18hr trip all at once. I have no car and am travelling solo. Are there any bus options or any places on the way that are worth stopping in on the way (for 1 to 2 days). Also I have been to Matera and would rather go somewhere new.

thanks

I have been searching for buses from Brindisi or Taranto to Tropea, but am having problems with the websites, if you know any, that would be great!

Why do you first travel to the eastenmost place of italy in order to go te the West? From Ostuni or Bari, your trip would be much easier; from Matera too (I cannot immagine that you will not visit this place).
For example:
Bari dp by bus 9.00 - Naples ar 12.00, dp by train 13.55 - Tropea ar 18.16
Bari dp by bus 12.50 - Naples ar 16.30, dp by train 17.05 - Tropea ar 23.18
http://www.autobus.it/IB3.7.9/marino/Tabellone.aspx
Bari dp by bus 6.15 - Cosenza ar 10.10, dp by train 12.25 - Tropea ar 14.48
http://www.saj.it/bari_taranto_cosenza.htm

If it must be from Lecce, you may go from there by train to Bari, in order to reach the above mentioned busesvia Naples: Lecce dp 6.28, resp 10.17
or travel all by train:
Lecce dp 5.40 - Taranto 8.23/9.50 - Salerno 13.42/14.33 - Lamezia 16.57/17.25 - Tropea ar 18.16
Lecce dp 10.33 - Taranto 13.16/14.00 - Battipaglia 17.23/18.00 - Rosarno 21.15/22.46 - Tropea ar 23.18

I suggest to do this jouney in 2 legs:
Bus: Lecce dp 18.45 - Cosenza ar 23.05
Train: Cosenza dp 6.50 - Tropea ar 9.51

That's a really good question! East to West in italy just didnt seem too far on the map (I am from the wide brown land that is Australia), but I do know that the south in Italy is particularly hard to get around without a car.

I havent bought tickets yet but i was planning to start the trip in either bari or brindisi (I am not too interested in these places), but not actually staying there. I want to go straight to ostuni or lecce. Its flexible.

So if I start in Lecce, then head to Ostuni. After Ostuni, I am looking at other places on the way to Tropea. I have been to Matera, but not Maratea. I am considering going to Maratea after ostuni and then to Tropea. I am hoping this might break the trip up, but am not sure if that will further out of my way and more hassle.

I am doing this travel on the way to a wedding in Taormina. After Tropea, I am planning to travel to Taormina. However if there is are flights from Brindisi or Bari to Catania, maybe its a better option to stay in Puglia and skip Tropea.

Thanks so much for your help! I really appericate all the information!

You ask for Tropea and I gave you the timetables for Apulia - Tropea. If you want to go to Taormina, it would be easier (and very cheap) to fly from Bari to Catania http://www.blu-express.com/
