Ambato to Guaranda

Hi, i'm thinking of walking between Ambato and Guaranda in the first week of July along the Via Flores Road. At this point i am just trying to gather information to ascertain if its viable at this time of year (or at all). I am planning on taking 3 days to cover the 83km and camping wherever i need to for 2 nights.

I would appreciate if anyone can give me any information on the weather i can expect to encounter, temperatures, any dangers or warnings. This is a bit of a far out question, but is there cell coverage along that road?

Any information will be gratefully received.

I think it is viable but it is pretty bleak, obviously the views of Chimborazo can be spectacular but if it is cloudy and windy you are just following a winding road up a long way and across the desert like arenal (maybe that is the attraction). Maybe if you get the IGM map you can find some trails which run close (but not too close) to the road, otherwise why not do the trek from Urbina over the saddle between Chimborazo and Cairhuayazo and then continue to Guaranda.

Good luck
Graham

It also takes a long time to boil water up there so take some purification tablets. On that note access to water could be an issue, I don“t remember seeing any streams.
