Shanghai Hongqiao Station to FuzhouRoad - How To
Will arrive tomorrow at the above train station (shanghai hongqiao) - my hostel is at 37 FuzhouRoad at the Bund and don't know how to get there. I had planned on getting a taxi from the station, but the staff at my current hostel said taxi is too expensive and takes too long.Have looked at LP's shanghai map but can't even see the station listed. I'll have a heavy suitcase.
Can you help please?
Thank you.

Take a taxi anyway. The people who don't want you to take one should come to the train station and carry your suitcase. Taxis have no problem to drive to any location in Fuzhou Lu.2
I agree with #1Alternatively, try out maps.google.com. Sparing you the trouble: take subway line 2 (from Hongqiao), get off at East Nanjing Rd. From here it is maybe 6-700 m walk: head south on Henan Middle Rd. which crosses Fuzhou Rd. some 300 m down. From there it is a further 3-400 east on Fuzhou Rd.

We had a problem of being shanghaied by a Shanghai taxi driver who pretended to not know where to take us in order to jack up the price. We were going to the International Quarter of Shanghai, which is not obscure for a taxi driver!6
You were unlucky, Trekker - there are scores of blokes who wait at the train stations trying to get people to go with them for a taxi. These I ignored and made for the designateed taxi rank. This time around I was a bit more savvy - I knew to make straight for the taxi rank, no stopping for photos or looking around - just get there asap before all the other passengers get there before you. I waited in line for just over an hour when

Each time I try to edit, Iget a mesage saying "This message contains content not allowed in this forum. " The traffic was a nightmare and it took an hour to reach my hostel. The fare was 82 yuan (about $12) which was reasonable I thought. It was a joy to see the overhead traffic signs and see that we had advanced a further 500 metres or 1 km!For somne reason the computer acts weird and does double spacing at times.
