It's very useful, it can save your life, please do not go without using some sort of medical precaution ...We've lost a member on here before in W.Africa, my tropical diseases doctor lost her brother who 'only went to Guinea for 4 days on business' you can imagine how she felt that her brother didn't take her advice!
Please see a doctor to get a prescription!

My husband and I get Malaria around 4-6 times a year out there, sometimes we catch it in time and can use the over-the-counter pill packs (4 pills 2-3 times a day for 3 days) which nip it in the bud. But most often we have to go the injection, or even worse the IV/serum route which can be.. traumatic and by that time you are usually really sick. If you are only going for a week, for SURE take your anti-malarials. The hospitals and doctors are busy enough without having to worry about a traveler who didn't take the right precautions. Malarone for 5 weeks (2 weeks before, 2 weeks after) is 100% worth it.ADVERTISEMENT
