Hurricane Carlotta

Hurricane Carlotta is now Category Two and is bearing down on Puerto Escondido and points west towards Acapulco.

I also signed on to post about this ; hope all is well in Zipolite and surrounds this evening. Please post an update when power returns.

Hope there's no injuries or structural damage.

Looks like the eye brushed Punta Cometa near Mazunte, came ashore, and now it's on it's way up the coast to Puerto Escondido. This storm isn't quite as strong as Pauline in '97, but almost. Pauline was a real disaster for the oaxaca coast. I hope somehow that this one isn't nearly as bad. So many places operating on a day-to-day shoestring basis, and business has been very slow this year. Not a good time for this.

Well it looks like the storm lost some force after landfall. No news from Zipol-Mazunte. Cell and electric are down. Reports of mudslides blocking roads around Pochutla. Any other news appreciated..

The wind was enough to move the camera on its mounts. It's now looking up at the sky, and not Zicatela beach.

Just left Zipolite a few hours ago. I hung in there for two days after the hurricane hit but it just got too uncomfortable and I headed to Puerto Escondido. There is no electricity, no running water, no cel phone no internet, and the biting insects have taken over. It could be up to a week before lights and water are restored. There is a lot of damage. The hurricane blew over Zipolite for over six hours and it was an experience I will never forget.

Thanks for posting the video. Given the lessened quality of construction and utility infrastructure in that area what I saw on the video seemed milder than a strong Midwestern USA rainstorm.

@11, maybe we've looked at different videos from what was linked above. ;-) My earlier comments were meant to make reference to what I saw in the video and the chiflado -like behavior of one or more individuals making an appearance.
