Trip to Vietnam for 10 days

I am planning a trip to Vietnam for around 10 days, but pretty flexible with the time.

I will be entering Vietnam from the China border, after having spent some time in the West of China, but want to make my way down to the border to fly out from Ho Chi Minh City. I want to spend a couple of days surfing, but obviously also see the main sites, including Han Noi. What do people reccommend, and where is the best place to enter into Vietnam from China?

Thanks

If you're coming from Kunming you take a bus to the border Hekou/ Lao Cai.

If you're coming more from the north you go through the border south of Nanning,

Can I get all the way from Li Jiang to the Lao Cai border? And how long would this take?

Thanks

@#2 has summed it up but for 10 days you will need some flights.
