Self-Drive Tanah Rata (Cameron Highlands) to Kota Bharu Airport

Hi,

I am planning my trip to Malaysia, and I would like to know if it's possible to make the self-drive road from Tanah Rata (Cameron Highland) Kota Bharu Airport in one morning.

I want to arrive to Kuala Lumpur and rent a car to go directly to Tanah Rata (Cameron Highlands). After 2 days, I want to go to Pherentians Islands, and we have to drop-off the car in the Kota Bharu Airport in time to take a taxi to the Kuala Besut Jetty and take the last ferry to Pherentians.

How much time is the drive from Tanah Rata to Kota Bharu?
Do you think is possible to do in 6 hours?

If not, maybe I have to change my mind and go to Tanah Rata by bus and then Van to Kuala Besut Jetty.

What do you think?

Thank you in advance.

Miguel Angel.

Easy enough driving in Malaysia might try Google maps for distances.

Have you found a car rental company that allows a drop off at KB?

Hello,

Than you for all the replies.

To Greenmango: Yes, I have found this site. www.hawkrentacar.com.my

The only thing left for me to know is if the road is difficult to drive.
Be in mind I have no experience in driving out of Spain, and less with an automatic car.
Are the roads bad? Is possible to start the journey early in the morning (6:00 AM)?

Thank you in advance.

Miguel Angel.

Be aware they drive on the LEFT in Malaysia :-)

We hired a car in KL for 3 days in 2010 and had no problems with the roads (although we did not go as far as you - we went to Kuala Gandah and Kuala Selangor). See if you can get them to throw in a sat nav so you don't need to stress about navigation!
