Need help deciding where to stay in Rome

I am looking for a little advice/feedback on two hotels and their locations. This is part of a travel package that I received and these were my options to choose from. The hotels are in two opposite directions. From my research there are positives and negative to the hotels themselves as well as transportation location. I know Hotel 2 is best for accessing transportation and multiple historical sites and I know Hotel 1 is a little walking distance to transportation and close to Vatican City.

What I don’t know is the feel? How is the safety in the hotel and round the hotels? What about the noise levels in and around the hotels?

Hotel 1 – Visconti Palace near Vatican City
Hotel 2 – Mediterraneo near main train station

Any information would me much appreciated. Thanks in advance

I don't know the hotels themselves....as for the 'feel'...the area around the Vatican is more upscale and feels a little safer I guess (around Termini is safe as well,but the presence of lots of people hanging around in the streets seems to unnerve a lot of visitors,particularly North Americans ;-)

There is some street/traffic noise in Rome everywhere...unless your hotel is on top of a bar,restaurant or club it is unlikely to be a problem.

I have not stayed at either hotel but I like the Termini area over the Vatican. I don't care for the Vatican area at night as there is not a lot going on and I'm not crazy about the restaurants in that neighborhood. The Termini area may not be the most attractive area but it is safe.

mmm. do you really think that a hotel that was unsafe inside would stay in business for long?

...and round the hotels?

All of Rome is safe.

What about the noise levels in and around the hotels?

The VAtican area is definitely quieter, However, much depends on whether you are facing street-side or onto a court

Not personally familiar with either hotel. I'd compare reviews on both TripAdvisor and booking.com. And prices, of course.

There are worthwhile sights close to both hotels--depending on your priorities. Metro stops, too.
