Campervan in Australia
Hi AllI've seen some posts kind of about this but I was wondering if anyone could help me with a more detailed query.
I am going to be going to Australia for roughly 2 weeks at the end of the month going from Brisbane to Melbourne.
The advice I need is would it work out cheaper to get a campervan? The hostels appear to be very expensive especially considering I am used to the hostel prices in South East Asia.
If its worth getting a campervan should we get one with a toilet and a shower even though the cost is a lot more?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Aussie hostels are very pricey - and quite hard to get into. The good news is that the campsites are excellent and not too expensive, and as almost all have toilet and shower blocks you don't need that in your van.it will be winter though and you are going to Melbourne...

Hi thanks for the reply.I was thinking more that we could 'free camp' if we had a shower and toilet in the campervan saving on campsite fees.
Also I know it will be winter but it's now or never to see Australia so just going to have to brave it.

There's not many places you can free camp in Australia, so I'm not sure how feasible it would be.I would recommend looking at camper van relocations;

you might be able to get a good deal on there for the route you want, however if you don't you may need to factor in one-way hire charges.

I think the consensus is 2 weeks is not cost effective for campervan hire. As you get closer to Melbourne it will be temps of -1 or 0 to days of 10-14. Hire a car and use the cabins at caravan parks or the hostels. Free camping is not very well set up whilst it is doable you will attract attention from local council officers.5
Or you could get yourself a copy of Camps Australia 6. It lists free and cheap camping spots all over Australia.6
Hi All / guestfamilytravelsHas anyone actualy used the 'standbyrelocs.com' company? I made an enquiry yesterday and they seemed ok. they did ask for a $1,000 liability bond which I'm not keen on paying, and a $75 holding deposit, both of which I get back apparently.
Any advice on this company or any other relocation company would be very much appreciated!!

We didn't use standbyrelocs but our friends did - their blog is www.ourtravellifestyle.com and you can contact them via that if you want a first hand review.We hired a motorhome with Kia in New Zealand and their bond was a few thousand dollars (I think $5000 but we hired for 45 days so perhaps this is why? - we got it back minus the speeding fine my husband picked up!)
