Train fare from Budapest to Bratislava

Hi

Can anyone tell me the cost of the one-way rail fare between Budapest and Bratislava. I can't get the MAV site to give the cost of fares for international journeys.

Thanks,

Dave

The round-trip fare is EUR 17.50. At current MAV exchange rates (EUR 1 = HUF 300) that's HUF 5,250.

Since the round-trip fares include a 60% discount over the Hungarian portion of the journey, and a 55% discount over the Slovak part - don't ask for a one-way ticket!

If you're not going to use the return portion of your ticket, check Orangeways for bus service. The fare comes up at 2290 Forints one-way. You do have to pay to check in bags, but if you only have 1 bag it's only 1 Euro. You must show your passport and printed out ticket to board.

Thanks Guys

I have looked at Orangeways but unfortunately I have to travel at 8am (too early) or 4pm (too late) so I thought I would give the train a go if the cost is reasonable.

Many thanks,

Dave

Hey,

One way tickets costs app. 15 EUR, return is for 17,50 EUR. Maybe you can also get a reduced tariff (50% off the normal price). Just ask or see these information about traveling from Budapest to Bratislava

You seem to have written that from the perspective of Bratislava.

There certainly isn't a €15 one-way fare from Budapest. As stated, the round-trip fare is cheaper - it can also be booked on-line on the MAV website, although since it is a walk-up fare that's not really necessary.

Also to talk of a train shuttling between the stations is a bit misleading - these are long-distance trains going to/from Prague, Berlin and Hamburg - as a result, they can suffer (occasionally) significant delays.

There is also a later train at 20:05 from Budapest - an overnight sleeper to Germany, but it does convey "normal" seating accommodation too.

If you want to save a few cents, get a train to Komárom, cross the border and go to the Slovakian train station (20-30 minutes walk) and catch a train to Bratislava. This trip will be around 10€.

Recently (11/5/13) bought two seats for two adults from Budapest to Bratislava in 5 minutes on Saturday lunch time at the main Budapest Keleti station. Trains run all the time. And within 5 minutes we were on our way. 10500 HUF. I wanted one way but return is the same price apparently. Mental system. Anyone want 2 tickets to Budapest from Bratislava one way good for one month.
