Driving In Australia on WHVHi
I'm travelling to Australia in September on WHV.
I'm not planning on buying a car but would like the option to rent etc.
Is my Irish Driver's Licence sufficient or do I need an International Driving Licence. I believe the AA in Ireland process these?
Do I need to apply to each state individually for International Driver's Permit?

1Overseas drivers visiting Australia, who do not hold a permanent visa, will be regarded as 'visiting drivers' and can use their valid overseas licence to drive. You can only drive vehicles for the classification of your home licence. See link below for more details –
An International Drivers permit is no more than a translation of you home licence into a number of languages. You need to get one BEFORE you leave home. Contact the automobile association in your country.

4UK driving licences seem to be good the world over. We have hired cars in many countries only using our UK licences and never had a problem. I thought the IDP was really only for translating a licence if it wasn't in English (since it appears that most countries understand enough English to accept them).
Having said that, it wouldn't hurt to get one....
