Overnight train from Veliky Novgorod to Moscow

Hi - I am trying to book online ticket from Veliky Novgorod to Moscow in August. I have looked at the website of rdz.ru English version but can't find how to book tickets. Can any one help?

Thanks - Heather

First, you can only book tickets online with the Russian version.

Second, you can only book tickets up to 45 days in advance, meaning as of today you can't book anything later than 19 July.

Here's the info for you though: dep. 2120 arr. 0520 1120 rubles (platskart), 2290 rubles (kupe)

Thanks Celticbhoy7, forgot about the 45 day rule! Will try and work out how to do it on the Russian version in the meantime. Heather

Try using google. There are several websites that give step by step instructions on how to register for the rzd.ru site which is the first step in purchasing tickets and then how to use the site which changed its format in the last several months.

As aroundtheworld Traveller using trains I suppose you will arrive and depart at many train stations. And I think you will stay a few days in Petersburg. I would recommend: Go to the Main station in St. P. on day of arrival and buy the train ticket from Novgorod to Moskva.

Thanks Spoerle - we will be staying 3 nights in St P. Do you think this will give us enough time to get an overnight sleeper, 1st class?

Heather,
do not insist on 1st class (Spalny Wagon = 2 berth in the cabin) 2nd class (Kupe = 4 berth in a cabin). But try first Spalny wagon, then Kupe.
It is an overnight journey, not 48 or 60 hours on the far east lines.

August is at the end of the high season, I think you should try to get the tickets on day of arrival.
Go to the Moskovskaja station, they have a separate counter for foreigners.

Good luck

Actually on this particular train there is no first class, only kupe (2nd), platskart (3rd), and sidyachii (4th).

You can also get tickets from the central ticket office on Kanal Griboyedova near Nevsky Prospekt. I took this train a couple years ago in June and on the day of travel there was only the 4th class left, which I can't really recommend as it's just seats that barely recline.

I also bought them from the office on Griboedova before I left St P and approx 2/3 days before leaving Novgorod...
