Bangkok to Phucket

Hi I read that yo ucan now take a train from Bangkok to Phucket..... I know you can do this over night and catch a bus somewhere to bring you the rest of the way? Is this a better option than flying?

Once in Phucket, how do I go about getting to Ko Samui, what kind of distance am I looking at?

Thanks all of your help will be greatly appreciated!

I'm not really sure if you meant you were going to Koh Samui, and taking the train via Phuket to get there, or are planning on spending time at both places?

If it's just Koh Samui you're going to, you take the train to Surat Thani, then a bus/ferry transfer to Koh Samui. Depending where you book your train tickets from, you can get your bus/ferry transfer at the same time which is convenient.

Cheers,

the train from bangkok stops at surathani.
from there you can either...

...take a bus to Phuket... 5 or 6 hours, depends on the bus..

... take a bus out to the docks - about 70kms away - and take a ferry out to Koh Samui, it takes a few hours, once under way.

so, you get the train to Surathani = overnight
then take a bus out to the docks = 1 hour
then take a ferry to koh samui = 3 hours
then take a ferry/bus combined ticket from koh samui to phuket.. various options / day / overnight...
you will arrive phuket bus station.

good luck

Yes train to Surat and once off there are travel shops to take you to either side you choose. You can fly to Phuket, Samui or Krabi FYI.

get to bangkok..
go to train station and buy a ticket to surathani.
get off train.
go out of train station and look left. find travel agents nearby, across the street.
book combined bus and ferry ticket to koh samui.
take a seat... wait a while.
get on bus... go to ferry dock.
get off bus and get on ferry..leave mainland
relax on ferry to koh samui.
arrive samui.. do your thing for how ever long...

go to travel agent on koh samui.
book combined ticket ferry and bus to phuket.
wait a while.
get on ferry and leave koh samui.
arrive docks at surthani - mainland again.
get on bus to town... change from local bus to phuket bus..
might have to wait some hours, or none.
get on phuket bus.
arrive phuket town bus station.
if you're heading down to Patong Beach then you should ask here for a local connection as the beach is still 20k's away.

Also, how is it that you're still having problems spelling PHUKET ? just wonder'n!!!

Phucket.
OP - hope you have worked it out by now that there's no place called "Phucket" in Thailand.
Any reason why you want to catch a train to Phuket? BKK-HKT flight is direct, cheap and quick....unless you really really want to spend a whole day sitting in a train and bus.

ภูเก็ต, pronounced Poo-get, sort of. Nothing to do with the f word.

Is this a better option than flying?
Yes.
Experience Thai culture.
Save a night's accomodation cost.
See the countryside on the way to Phuket during the daytime.

Coming back from Phuket to Bkk you can take an overnight bus direct, or go back to Surat to catch the train.

For all of those who assisted, I am extremely greatful. To all of those who politely corrected me on my spelling of the wiord Phuket, thank you. To those who mocked it, well you have some challenges that run far more deep in life that derive from your self esteem.

We are going to fly to Phuket, bus or car and ferry to Koh Samui and then ferry/bus/train back to Bangkok. It seemed to work better that way for us and covered all the options.

Train and bus in Thailand can be a bit chancy. I would fly it is only one hour from Bangkok and costs about $225 return
