Going to Ukraine for a week. Odessa and Kiev or just one?

Hi I am planning to visit Ukraine this summer for a week. Should I just go to Odessa as they are telling me that is the most touristic place, or should I divide it in half and go to Kiev as well?

It depends on what you want to see of course! What is your purpose?

Yes, you need to tell us what it is you want from this trip.

I found it easy to spend an entire week in Kyiv but I wuld not say the same about Odessa.

A week in Odessa is - in my opinion - too long. Better share the week with Kiev (or Lviv, or the Crimea).

You said - Odessa, it's good. And I tell you that turistic capital of Ukraine is Lviv.
Do not forget to make the right choice :)

Well, I will try to compare Odessa and Kiev. These cities are completely different. Kiev has much more historical places to visit. Kiev is older than Odessa. Kiev is bigger. Odessa is more relaxed than Kiev. Together with interesting architectural sights you will find many cozy places just to have a rest in. There are many good cafes all over the city center. Together with that Odessa is a clubbing capital of Ukraine. There are many different discos, clubs and bars in Arcadia area.
My advice is to visit both cities!

Odessa is certainly worth visiting for 2-3 days. It was founded in the end of 18th century as a trade center; it was only partially bombed during WWII - its historic part is elegant and well preserved. However, it is the atmosphere or spirit of this multicultural place which makes anyone to enjoy this flamboyant city and its beautiful humorous people.

I would say that if you will spend the whole week, you can have a tour Lviv- Kyiv - Odessa. You will manage that for sure and the fun will be greater!
It is truth that Lviv is a tourist center of Ukriane, however, Kyiv, the capital of the country and Odessa, South gate of the country - they are all worth visiting.

I strongly recomend you to have such tailor made holiday! You would not regret it and if you need any help - please contact me.

Good morning!
For my own part, you'd better go to Odesa on the April 1st, since Odesa is considered to be a center of humor in Ukraine, and we have extremely interesting and exciting holiday celebration on the Humor Day. I believe, the best summer spots in Ukraine are LVIV, which has a multitude of various unusual and cosy cafes (Lviv is a place of great interest not only for foreigners, but also for Ukrainians) in addition to historical places; CRIMEA (known as a pearl of Ukraine), which is popular for its palaces, parks and the Black sea, of course. And KYIV - the capital.
By the way, the center of Europe is located in Ukraine :) It is in Zakarpattia region with its fresh air, uncomparable greenery, curable water springs.

Have a nice day!

Being the resort on the Black Sea, Odessa is always better visited during the summer. The weather is most stable, which is not the case in April. If the visit is planned for summer, I suggest to come to Odessa. Certainly, it depends on the purpose of the visit. If it is historic places, then visit the western Ukraine and Kiev. If it is resorts, then Crimia. If the people/atmoshphere, then without any doubt this is Odessa for 2 full days

During this time it is possible to see everything I think.
Depending also from transport betwen cities. trains are too long, Taxi drivers take less money if to call to radio taxi, not to take it in city. Buses are good but not comfortable for trips more than two hours( little amount of stops with good servise)
Odessa is very good for walking on the sea shore, swimming, to see some historical places. Of course Arcadia and Deribasovskaya are very popular.
Crimea is real adventure for everyone. on little area you can find rest for any taste, of course beaches( sand or cliffs), history ( many palaces and history from 5 century bc Chersoneses till Balaklava with its secret museum), active rest ( everything you like and want from diving till parachutes), village life( fishing, ostrich and donkeys farms) and of course cuisin from Ukrainian till tartars .
Everything is not very expensive because there are a lot of nice cfes with usual prices
one week is not enough to enjoy everything)))) so what to say, just look on pictures))
And it is Russian part of Ukraine.
Lviv is interesting enough, if you have been to Prague, I think there are a lot of common between them.

To quick find some place in Kyiv see kyivplaces.com and mapia.ua
