VIsa-good for how long?

Hello all! My first trip to Asia will be in February 2013, I already purchased my flights, I will be arriving in Vietnam February 14 and exiting March 23. I guess I should have inquired on this before purchasing my tickets, but oops! Can someone please tell me if Vietnamese visas are only good for 30 days or is there a way to purchase a visa that will allow me to stay in Vietnam a bit longer? Also, if we decide to spend 1 week in Cambodia will that be a problem getting back into Vietnam? We would probably take a flight to Cambodia from Vietnam. And my last question..what is the best way to apply for a visa and how soon before travel should I apply? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you need a 90 day multi-entry visa, if you plan to make a side trip to Cambodia. You can apply online (fast, cheap and easy) if your first arrival will be by AIR. See http://www.vietnamvisapro.com or http://www.hotels-in-vietnam.com both have low fees and good service. Apply anytime, (about a couple of weeks or so before you leave) but you won't get your approval letter via email till 3-4 days before you leave. The other option is to apply at an embassy, but that costs double or more, and you need to mail them your passport.

Great, thanks so much! One more question, if we decide not to go to Cambodia, what type of Visa should I apply for? (same dates as above, all Vietnam)

In that case a 90 day single entry will do it. Vietnam visas are good for 30/90/180 days. You could get a 30 day visa then get an extension once you arrive in Vietnam, but why give yourself that additional hassle/cost?
If you get a single entry visa then later decide on a side trip to Cambodia, you can get another visa in PP for around $45USD, costs a bit more and may take longer in SR.
But, of course if you fly back into Vietnam you can just get another pre-approved visa online, and it'll cost less than from the embassy/consulate.

No problem. Instead of you make 1 month visa you change to make 2 months visa letter. Incase you would like to visit Cambodia and then back Vietnam and fly back home from Vietnam, you must make multi visa. Everything is easy and only 1 week you can get visa when you ask a travel agent in Vietnam make it for you or you can make online.
For the trip to destinations in Vietnam you should visit Hanoi, Sapa, Halong, Van Long, Hue, Hoi An, NHa Trang. Da Lat, Ho Chi Minh, Mekong Delta are highlights and shouldnot miss in Vietnam. You can choose some of them how to suit for your time and plan to the country. After visit Vietnam, make plane or speedboat on Mekong delta to visit Cambodia. After that flight back Ho Chi Minh for fly back home or make fly to Thailand for back home

When did Vietnam start issuing "2 months visa"? AFAIK visas are issued for 15 days, 30 days, 90 days or 180 days. One year visas seem to be a thing of the past, and the 180 day visa only available from some locations.
