Ho Chi Minh at Christmas

Hello, it's my first time posting here and I'm looking for a little assistance :)

I will be arriving in Ho Chi Minh on December 22nd, I understand Christmas is celebrated in Vietnam these days but how does it affect public services, transport and shops etc? Are most places closed on Christmas Day? Are there any special things you can do at Christmas there?

Thanks :)

Christmas isn't "celebrated" as a westerner would define it. It's not a holiday. Nothing will be closed. New Year's Day is a state holiday, but again most services will operate. Places like banks and some museums will be closed.

Although I'm not religious, I usually go to a catholic church if I'm travelling on Christmas day just because they sing carols and so on. I'd also go to a terrific restaurant, perhaps in a western hotel where they might have decorations. And Skype home.

hi Wayne83,

i have some friends in Vietnam and i know that the main religion in this country is not christian, so the Christmas Eve here, like mrmookie stated, is a little bit different. it is rather a big event than a holiday celebration. almost all of the christian in Vietnam gather in front of the Duc Ba church or the square in Christmas night. the shopping centers and office buildings are decorated with colorful lights so you can take many beautiful photos here. you can also visit Diamond Plaza, Vincom Center to take part in some annual events in Christmas Day.

cheers.

Hi,

Christmas does not affect public services, transport and shops much. Most services will operate as usual.Just on 24th evening the road will be crowded as many people go out.
