Napoli, Capri and Amalfi Coast - itinerary advice?
I have booked tickets for mid August and will have about 3 days (I know its less :-( ) for this area. Taking train from Rome, reaching Napoli around 2PM on 15th, Have 16th and 17th with me and 18th post lunch will start for Amantea for a friend's wedding. I need advices/itinerary suggestions for these 2.5-3 days. Its gonna be hectic and I know we might be running around a bit but in Amantea we will chill for few days so I dont mind ;-)I have heard great things about Sorrento, Capri and in general the Amalfi Coast, so not sure what to cover and what to let go.
Any suggestions will be helpful.
PS: Will not mind sleeping a bit less these days :P

Hopefully you'll excuse my 'cut and paste' but for Campania...For an easy start, maybe have a look at this - which covers a selection of the Province of Napoli's attractions, the "Pearls of the Bay"...

............
Some very good tourist leaflets - in English - financed a few years ago by the Campania regional authorities seem to be available nowadays only from the website of a group of local B&B operators.
There are overlaps between them - the first is a general overview of Naples and Campania, the others are probably self-explanatory - but together they probably contain more than you'll easily find elsewhere, although you should be sure to cross-check any times, prices etc before travelling!!

That last one is perhaps the best.... close to food porn!

The Naples area tourism people publish a very good, bimonthly magazine - 'Qui Napoli' - which offers a huge amount of useful information for visitors - including the details of the major sights and sites locally, listings for hotels, restaurants etc etc. I guess it's given away in hotels and at the "Infopoints" but in several years have yet to find one! We use the PDF version instead, available here...

I would make one destination, Would be the Island of Capri. And if you can rent a boat so you can get to the swim in the Blue Grotto. Here are some images of inside the cave. It is something you don't want to miss. I think you could take a taxi to it also.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Grotto_(Capri)
It is one of my other favorite locations, Ravello for it's pottery, and Positano. You just can't go wrong with anyplace you pick.

Pocholavezzi - I think it does make sense to stay in Sorrento as it is close to both Capri and Amalfi but I checked and everything looks obscenely expensive. Since we will be spending most of the time outdoors, dont really want to spend on accommodation. A normal clean room should be fine. The hotels you suggested are all 100€ + per night. Same is the case with hotels I saw in booking.com - you mentioned Sorrento will be reasonable, so does that mean Capri/Amalfi will be even more expensive ?About transport in that area, are there buses or will have to rely on taxis ? (for example if I have to go from one beach to the other) or say from Sorrento ro Amalfi ?
Does it make sense to use websites like airbnb to find a place, but they might be out of the city and we dont have a car so might get tricky ?
Peter - quite a lot of info, have started reading them. Thank for the links!

Mid-August is by far the most expensive time of year just about everywhere in this area! For bargains, perhaps look in Naples - which goes very quiet that month, when its people flee the heat for either the coast and or the mountains...

I will have 3 days in that area and probably will spend the last night in Napoli and was thinking of Keeping Sorrento as base to be able to do a day trip to Capri and one day around on Amalfi coast - Positano, Ravello - all using the SITA buses if I correctly remember reading somewhere ?Any other small town around the way which is connected by public transport and I can get cheaper accommodation ?
