journey from koh samui to kuala lumpur
hi all,i believe many of you are familiar with this island here. well i've already settled my air tickets from singapore to kuala lumpur, and kuala lumpur to surat thani then to koh samui. but right now i need to figure out a way to get back to singapore by june 17 (I HAVE TO BE BACK AT LEAST BY EVENING - NO OTHER OPTIONS!!)
so..flying from kuala lumpur back to singapore isn't a problem at all since there are many flights available, my problem right now is that what time should i set off koh samui back to surat thani, (there is no flights to kuala lumpur from surat thani on the 17th, therefore my other options are hat yai and krabi, and which way should i get there by? train or minibus? getting a flight from hat yai back to KL shouldn't be a problem, but i need to know the fastest way to get to hat yai from koh samui.
please advice.
cheers

There are direct flights from Samui to Singapore with BKK Air.3
Firefly also fly Koh Samui to KL. And Air Asia from Surat Thani to KL. Then AA from there to Singapore. Both these combinations should be cheaper than Bangkok Airways to Singapore if money is a consideration.4
Yeah somebody from tripadvisor gave me the same advise. I just checked, there isnt any flights from ko samui to KL, no flights from hat yai either. Ko samui to Subang on the other hand cost about $180 sgd. I'm trying to keep my returns less than $130. Will it be wise to buy the tickets like a couple of days before the actual flight back? I heard sometimes it gets really cheap cause the airlines wanna fill up as many seats as they can.Edited by: zorgggr

Nope. Prices will only go up and keep going up the closer to travel dates.Subang Airport is in KL!! Though not in the same direction as either LCCT or KLIA.
I'd say the Air Asia flights would be the cheapest. See how that works out compared to the others.
AA has flights from Surat Thani to KL on either 14th or 16th June. But its 300THB cheaper on 14th. Connecting to another AA flight to Singapore comes in under your $130.

Okay I was afraid that Subang might be too far off for me to get to LCCT, flying from KL to Singapore is easy and shouldn't be very expensive at all.Oh you see...I will be arriving in Surat Thani on the 14th from KL and there isn't any return on the 17th hence I'm trying to look for alternative ways to travel from Ko Samui to KL.

Air Asia have flights from Surat Thani on June 16th and onward flights to Singapore the same day. See which flights suit allowing time to get to Surat Thani from Koh Samui plus enough time in KL to connect. To get from Koh Samui to the airport, buy a combo ticket from any travel agency or from the ferry office in Nathon. They will make sure you get the right ferry plus travel time on the mainland to get to the airport. This is a much more assured way of getting to Singapore in time for your flight seeing as thats the most important thing. It would take much longer if you wanted to go overland. You will need to stay in Singapore the night if you do this.We stayed at Ideal GH in Singapore, cheap plus just around the corner from an MRT stop that goes to th airport.

No problem in singapore dude. I live here. ;)Looks like I really might have to compromise and shorten the trip by a day, and that will effectively make my time in Ko Samui lasting only 2d2n since the flight from Surat Thani back to KL is at 11:30, means I'll have to set off early in the morning.
How long does it take to get down to Hat Yai airport from Samui??

Just re read your post. to get to Hat Yai from Koh Samui would take over half a day. There would be no advantage going there because there is only one flight a day to KL. You could always stay in KL a night. Theres not much in Surat Thani so no point staying there.11
http://www.travelfish.org/transport/thailand/southern_thailand/surat_thani/surat_thani/allAccording to them it takes 4 hours to get to Hat Yai from Ko Samui by a minibus - how reliable is that??

For travelling time, probably reliable. BUT minibuses in Thailand have a habit of waiting till they are full before going and that is the unknown. We've had waits of hours rather than minutes.
