Costa Rica with 15 month old

Hi! We're going to Costa Rica in July/August for a month. This will be our first backpacking trip with our 15 month old. We're both fairly well traveled, but bringing the kiddo has us wondering about a lot of things. What did your pack list look like if you've done this type of trip before? What did you bring vs find it easier to buy there? We're planning on spending more time in each area than we might normally, just so that the little guy has some time to settle. Haven't settled our plans yet but thinking some time around Arenal, beaches, and Rio Celeste area.

Any helpful tips/experience you can share? Did you guys bring a travel crib? We're planning on a kid carrier and one large backpack for all of us, as well as a day pack.

Thank you!!

To clarify- any advice from anyone who's traveled with a kiddo around the age welcome and needed! Doesn't have to be CR specific... Curious about how others have handled what might be common issues, etc. Thank you!!

a late reaction, but here it is anyway.
about the travel cot, we took one of these for our son: http://www.pushchairs.co.uk/acatalog/nomad_travel_bed.html
it's small to carry, has an inflatable mattress and is easy to set up. One of these means that you are sure you have a safe, mosquito free bed for your kid and you don't have to worry about getting it during your travels. You can also use it during day time for naps in the park or beach.

don't take a lot of toys, he won't play with it anyway.

take some baby wipes with you. very usefull for anything from cleaning him up to wiping a chair, table, toilet or whatever. You'll probably want to clean his hands all the time in order to not have him putting dirty hands in his mouth.

I'm not sure if you have a kid carrier already. I really love the ergo carrier. It's small, you can put it in your backpack, and still very easy and comfortable to use.

Besides that, just make sure not too travel too rushed. Do the things you like to do and the little one will come along :-)

Thank you for the response! We have an Ergo and also a hard frame carrier. We're planning on bringing both since the Ergo is so light and packs small. We got this travel crib:

http://www.amazon.com/Gocrib-Portable-Baby-Travel-Crib/dp/B003VKYL3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339731419&sr=8-1&keywords=go+crib

It looks similar to the one you have. We also got a mosquito net. I think he will like having the consistency of being able to sleep in the same bed every night.
I was wondering about toys! We might bring one or two mainly to occupy him on the plane.
Thanks again!
