A few Questions....

Hi,

I plan to travel to India et the end of July for 3 weeks.I am aware it is monsoon season which isn't ideal but as a teacher the summer months are all i will ever have to travel.
I plan to fly into Delhi, go to Agra, across to Varanasi and down to Kolkata (to see where my Grandmother grew up) and fly over to Goa for a few days before flying home.

I know Kolkata can be particularly bad in monsoon season. Has anyone got any advice for me?

With regards to Goa, I have heard most things shut upshop in this season, is there anywhere that people could recommend to go during mid august?

I also am travelling alone, are there any places that i need to be more cautious about?

Also if anyone is travelling a similar route at this time let me know perhaps we could meet along the way.

Thanks!

Hi!

I'll be travelling around India in the same areas as you for the first 3 weeks too.

I have some of the same questions. If you're looking for a travel pal for some of your time, i will be travelling with another good friend.

maybe we could catch up or share accomodation?

Let me know.

Beach shacks will be gone since there will be no beach. But, interestingly enough, there is more to Goa than beaches. It will be lush and green and the waterfalls will be stunning. And there will be more than enough accommodation choice at any budget.

Thanks for the advice.

Mikfox, it would be nice to know there will be people around to meet up with.
Where is it you are traveling from?

Kolkata often floods in the rainy season so hitch up your sari /shalwar/lungi and be prepared to wade through flooded streets.

This is bang in the monsoon season. Whatever you choose to do, keep a cushion on account of delays due to monsoon, especially if you plan to use trains.

If you're planning a budget trip, I can not over-emphasize the necessity of a good mosquito-repellant :)
