There are various matatus from Nairobi to Nyeri, either the most common fourteen seaters or the minivans which accommodates nine people, the distance is about two and half hours and the prices is roughly 5 or 6$. Hope it's helpful.3
You catch the matatus on Accra Road, which goes off Tom Mboya St. near the big National Archives building. There are basic matatus and some "executve" ones which only seat 7 but cost a little more.
