Trip QuestionsHi Knowers of Belize,
Travelling to Belize for the 2nd time in July, looking to return to some great places and try some new ones.
We will be entering and leaving via Cancun and have approx 12 days. Plan is to take the water taxi to CC for a couple days, then head south to Tobacco Caye with a stop somewhere. So here are my questions:
We want to dive the Blue Hole. Of CC and Tobacco, what is the best/cheapest launching point? Is TC closer, that would make me think it should be cheaper am I missing something? Do they all stop near lighthouse, and somewhere else making it a 3 dive full day?
On TC, there is a 'resort' called TC paradise, but I cannot find their actual website other than trip advisor. It seems to be well rated, better than TC resort and budgeted better than the others. Anyone have a contact email, number or website. And is it even better?
On TC, there are snorkelling trips offered by resorts, but can you just get a guy with a boat to take you around as well (maybe cheaper)? We are also avid snorkellers, so can we access from shore to decent snorkelling, or is all boat access? Costs?
On the mainland, we are looking for some non-cruise ship river tubing, maybe jungle type accom and hanging out in the jungle. Have already been to San Ignacio and ATM. Is there a good place between BC and Dangriga that we could spend 2-3 days? Good river tubing operation?
Finally, we're thinking bus down from BC to Dangriga with a stop at the above mentioned jungle place, then out to TC. On the way back, fly to BC, bus from BC all the way to Cancun. Does this sound the fastest, or should we just get a bus from dangriga to the BC bus depot and get the mex bus there? Don't want to spend a day in BC.
Thanks so much for the help. All help appreciated

On my map, CC is closer than TC, but not by much. I don't know how many dive operators are at TC, but if there are more in CC (as well as more tourists), then the competition might mean CC is cheaper.

Ian Anderson's Caves Branch?
Good river tubing operation?
Caves Branch and the Blue Hole National Park

If the airfare is no problem, I'd fly just to avoid the bus trip -- maybe 15 minutes vs. a few hours.
The 3:30 James bus from Dangriga will get you to BC at about 6:30 pm so you won't have to wait very long for the ADO bus. On second thought, I'd suggest an earlier bus so that you're at the bus terminal by 5pm and can buy the ADO bus ticket from the agent -- if you arrive later, there's a chance the tickets could be sold out.

2On Tobacco Caye, you can snorkel right in front of your cabana. There's no need to hire anyone to take you snorkeling, but if you don't have snorkeling gear, you might have to rent them.

3you know about Raggamuffin's sailboat run from Caulker to Placencia, which stops at Tobacco on the second night?

6Hi, I don't think there are any trips to Lighthouse Atoll from Tobacco Caye so Caye Caulker would be the place for that. I don't know if you are aware but there is a boat, The Belize Express that goes from Chetumal to San Pedro and Caye Caulker for $37.50US. It leaves Chetumal at around 3pm and returns from Caye Caulker at 7:30am. It is a great ride in about 90 minutes and you avoid BC and the long bus ride. Or you may want to take the bus one way and the boat back. You have time but not lots of time so yes, I would advise the plane from Dangriga to Belize if you are planning to go to Caye Caulker after Tobacco Caye and still make it back to Cancun on time. The Paradise is nice with those two or three cabins over the water but if they are taken a good choice also is Gaviota's. They have nice cabins on the beach too and are reasonable with 3 meals included. Yes, there is decent snorkeling right from Tobacco Caye. The coral isn't as great as it was but there are still lots of big fish around and you never know what you might see. Since you have already been around San Ignacio, there is the Cockcomb Jaguar Reserve and also Mayflower right near Dangria/Hopkins and I think one of them has a waterfall after a hike. You would probably have to take a taxi or find a tour in Hopkins or Dangriga. Have fun but try to break it down with at least 3 days in each place or it will be too much coming from Cancun.

7I haven't been to the Mayflower site but the waterfalls are gorgeous - I watched a video recently linked on the Belize Forum someone posted of a group rappelling there. There are several beautiful waterfall hikes at Cockscomb - well worth the effort.
