Hello. I am really hoping someone can help as I am absolutly desperate. I have my honeymoon all booked and paid for and have now found out i need a visa. 6 years ago for the first and only time i got caught with cannabis which is usually a slap on the wrist for a first time offence. However i'd crossed the border to scotland and they dont care if its the first time, they just convict you. Has anyone ever successfully got a visa with a drug conviction. My fiance and i are in bits, we dont know whether to cancel our honeymoon. Please help if you have been through this, thanks

Do a search on "usa visa with drug conviction" on this board or Google.To be honest, it doesn't look good. Since you have been convicted, you are not eligible for the visa waiver program.
You will have to apply for a visa. According to non-official sources on the net, some people actually do receive a visa, but most don't. Be aware that the US and UK share databases of drug convictions.
Contact your nearest US consulate right away. But prepare for a plan B in the back of your head.

I'm from Denmark and i have a friend convicted for violence and so did some research. As far as i could see getting into the US with a conviction isn't a problem - as long as you're sensible enough to leave it out when you apply for visa or whatever else you need to apply for being from the UK. As an example i read about a guy who got in toe the country even though he had been caught robbing a bank. I have to mention that he was from Denmark and so only had to apply 72 hour before and answer some ridiculous questions about wehter or not you're a part of Al Qaeda so it's not an official visa but im sure you get my point. Explore ways to change your plans and find an alternative honeymoon.

Can you get at least some of your money back, or use an airline credit for a different destination? Even if you found someone who had the same experience, what they say is still anecdotal. Although unusual, you could still be turned away at the arrival airport with a visa. Why not change plans so you won't worry about it when it's your honeymoon. Then you could try a trip to the States another time when there is not as much riding on it.7

That's all anyone can offer you. Each case is treated on its own merits. We are not embassy/consulate officials, and we cannot predict what they will say.Even if someone else was ok or not, it doesn't mean the same will apply to you.
All you can do is prepare your papers and make your case.

There a lot more exotic, less expensive, better food and nicer lodging in many other countries than the USA.Go to Morocco, Costa Rica or Thailand.

How did you get busted for weed crossing a border in Scotland? was it one doobie or 1/4ounce....bonehead, should of got a lawyer and pleaded to a lesser offense..An arrest, is not a conviction by the way...

In scotland it doesnt matter if its 1 doobie or 10 ounces, you get convicted. We had a very small amount and it was the 1 st time anythimg like that had happened. Even the policeman said it was unfortunate we were in scotland as nothing at all would habe been done in England. To be honedt thats all beside the point, just wanna know if people have been granted a viss with a similar thing13
I worked in embassies and consulates but I don't know what will happen. It appears you have 3 main choices: 1) Apply for a visa and see what happens, then try to change what you can if you're denied (which you should have done before you made your plans, of course, but that's a moot point now); 2) consult an immigration attorney; 3) make diferent travel plans now. I certainly would not suggest hoping for the best at the port of entry when you're on your honeymoon.ADVERTISEMENT
