Finca San Pedro, Sogamoso - a place to stay!Spending time in Colombia is amazing! One of my most beautiful experience, I'd like to share with you and give you to the opportunity, to discover this amazing places as well.
Sogamoso is the first place I'd recommend. It's a place a lot of travellers skip, mostly because they don't know about it. True, the town is not the most beautiful one, but the place is perfectly situated to reach lots (!) of beautiful hiking opportunities around this spot. What's more, there are thermal baths, cultural sites, to learn about the indigenous people of the region and sweet little towns to go shopping (hammocks for example ;).
Where to stay there?
Easy answer: Finca San Pedro. It's the perfect place to stay. Nice, clean, beautiful garden with hammocks ;)...you'll stay with Juan and his Mom Gilma, two georgeous people! If you're interested in yoga, Juan is a yoga teacher, just ask for lessons. If you're interested in hiking and checking out all the great possibilities, nature shows in this place of earth, Juan knows the places, helps you to organise it and finds you a guide, if needed.
The second place I'd highly recommend to visit, is Los Llanos, which is approx. a day-trip from Sogamoso. It's a magic place. All plane, full of wild animals (anaconda, chiguiros, Puma, Jaguar) and hundreds of different kind of birds. There's a farm you can stay at, owned by a wonderful artist, pure Llanero and his workers. His family lives near his hotel, on other parts of the farm. I was totally amazed and stayed there for nearly one month as a volunteer. But you shouldn't expect a modern place. It's for nature-lover, for those who love simple life being reduced on it's most important things :Like eating, listening to a harp play in the evening, when Nelson, the owner of the farm, shares his inspiration and artistic talent, washing by hand, cooking on fire and being surrounded by pure nature. If you have the chance to volunteer, there are different possibilities of work, depending on what is needed at the time and on what you abilities are. I can only recommend, I had the most wonderful time on this place on earth.
I think it's very important to get there well informed about the farm, the people who live there and the issues that are important at this place. My tip: make a stop at Finca San Pedro in Sogamoso, Juan knows the farm and the people there and can provide you with the necessary information and help you organise the trip.
Best wishes and enjoy your trip!
