Travelling by train in United Kingdom

Hello,

Next week I will travel travel by train from London to the university city of Oxford with u group
of nine persons. Is it possible to buy a group ticket against a lower price?

And is it possible to book tickets in advance that are valid at all times?

I hope to hear from you.

Greetings,
Christiaan

You need either to go to a train station ticket office or ring 08457 000 125 (7am – 10pm Monday - Friday; 8am – 7pm Saturday & Sunday; for bookings, group bookings, season ticket renewals and reservations)

You can't book it online as the maximum group size is 8 however you can use the online site to work out the price if you booked it as a group of 4 and a group of 5 which may bring in other forms of discount.

But also check the Oxford Espress and Oxford Tube coach services - or even hiring a mini-bus for the day. But if possible you should have done this several weeks ago as prices will have been lower

I second #1 for the train, failing that the link to Oxford tube is http://www.oxfordtube.com/index.php, for Oxford Express (x90) it's http://www.oxfordbus.co.uk/main.php?page_id=261

Tickets are available next week from London Paddington to Oxford from £5 one way direct, off peak (after 9:00) for a specific train.

For the flexibility you are seeking you need an "Anytime Fare". These start at around £15 each way.

You can as the poster above says split your group into two mini groups to buy online.

Go to nationalrail.co.uk for fares and timetable or http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/

FYI Monday 7 May is a holiday in the UK

Advance tickets state a date and time of departure - only.
You can only travel on that specified service, for that specified fare.

Yes. Buy a GroupSave ticket. This allows 3 or 4 passengers to travel for the price of 2.

Go to http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Train-times-and-tickets
Click "add passengers and railcards"
Select 4 adults, 4 railcards and "Groupsave 4"
Input the rest of the details for your journey
Go through the booking process. When you get to the shopping basket, click "add another journey"
Repeat
Add a normal ticket for the 9th person.

Groupsave might be available for both "Advance" (limited to one particular train" and "Anytime" or "Off Peak" (valid on any train, subject to off peak restrictions if applicable) so make sure you buy the right type.
