West Coast 10-14 day Stopover Advice
Hi there,I am travelling to Austraila in Jan 2013 and my girlfriend and I are stopping in San Francisco. We are flying to Denver for a week to see our friend then back to San Francisco for around 10-14 days. We haven't really thought about what we are going to do yet, and I know its January so we arent expecting huge amounts of sunshine but we were looking for advice for a rough itinerary, its ages away so we are just looking for a rough idea as we are saving every penny for our trip!
We have a friend in San Diego so we would probably want to visit him and save some money on accomodation. I work for Enterprise rent a car so we could probably rent a car pretty cheap but we arent too sure of routes etc. We don't want to be on the road the whole time, but we would definitely like to visit LA and Las Vegas if its feasible to fit these in?
Does anyone know of any routes or suggested itinerarys we could follow or anything we shouldnt miss? We are on a budget, probably staying in motels/hostels etc.
I would really appreciate any advice! Cheers guys!
Just had a look through other threads and just to be more specific I have had a look at potential routes here and online etc just looking for some friendly advice. We are both not long finished university and like to go out for a drink, relax, beaches, theme parks etc, we are not hugely into hiking etc but Grand Canyon is something I would maybe like to see if we could fit it in. Hope this makes it a little clearer!

Well ... I know you will have a good time here in Australia - it's a lot like the US, but also totally different ... if you know what I mean. You could certainly do a triangle in your 10-14 days, with a car: San Francisco > Los Angeles > San Diego > Las Vegas (plus 1-2 nights Grand Canyon) > Bryce Canyon NP > Zion NP > back via Las Vegas > Death Valley NP > Lake Tahoe > back to San Francisco. Fantastic experience. There will probably be some cold weather, and potentially some genuine snow about, but overall that itinerary is not totally (or usually) ice-bound.

Hey guys, thanks very much for your comments. We are just beginning our holiday so want to take it easy-ish, the route you mentioned Ian sounds pretty good! Not sure if we would hit all those places on the way back but everything else sounds great, I will need to start looking at distances for driving :)4
Here is my advice if you plan to visit LA:http://shruti-k.blogspot.com/2012/05/city-of-angels-los-angeles.html
