Latest update on RUSSIAN VISA in CAMBODIAHey there, just wanted to give back a little ray of sunshine to everyone who is trying to get a russian visa abroad... :)
Well, we went to the russian embassy in Phnom Penh, we are german passport holders and were in Cambodia on a 30 day tourist visa.
Officially you are required to have a at least 90 day visa to be able to apply for a russian visa in any country that isn't your home country, but as we haven't been to Germany in quite a while we decided to give it a shot.
We got our invitations and visa support from realrussia.co.uk, no problems, within 10 Minutes we had the email with the attachments.
Just printed the stuff, printed insurance coverage for Russia (if you are a EU-citizen you gonna need one), got some passport photos and went to the embassy. It's open for consular requests on Monday and Thursday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The secretary got the ambassador straight away (you could tell they were a little bored as the visitors book just showed about ten entries for the past two weeks), he looked at our passports and told us, that we would usually need a three month visa to get the russian visa. He explained that this rule was issued just a few weeks ago (which isn't true, as you can read about it on the website which hasn't been updated for ages), so as it is up to him to decide in special cases, he would be able to help us. Even the just print-out of the invitation wasn't a problem, he actually asked us, where we got it, because he needed one for some of his cambodian friends.
We just paid the asked 46 $ each (make sure you have crisp new dollar bills, as any rips and writings on them will send you off trying to change that hundred dollar bill in the embassy suburb. Which isn't an easy task.) and came back a week later to pick up our passports with the shiny new russian visa.
I know it isn't a sure-as-hell bet, but if you are in Phnom Penh and are thinking about a trip to Russia, just give it a try, all you have to lose is a few bucks for the tuktuk and the invitation. The ambassador is a really nice man and will try to do what he can.
Good luck and enjoy your time in Russia ;)
